Woman thought to have good or evil magic powers. Witches are popularly depicted as wearing a black cloak and pointed hat, and flying on a broomstick, a follower or practitioner of modern witchcraft; a Wiccan priest or priestess, an ugly or unpleasant old woman; a hag, a female capable of enchanting or bewitching a man.



Warlock

The term warlock in origin means "traitor, oath breaker". In early modern Scots, the word came to be used as the male equivalent of witch (witch can be male or female, but is used predominantly for females). From this use, the word passed into Romantic literature and ultimately 20th-century popular culture.
